Who wants to be beautiful must suffer? Not necessarily! With these tips and tricks, you can prevent painful pressure points on your feet.

It’s the same evil every year: the new summer shoes are hardly worn and painful pressure points are already forming. Blisters on the feet are almost as much a part of summer as ice cream, sun and bikinis and can quickly spoil the joy of the most beautiful sandals. These practical tips will keep your feet healthy.

Make sure you get the right fit and size

When buying shoes, you should consider that feet swell in summer temperatures. If you buy a new pair of strappy sandals or ballerinas for the summer in spring, you should make sure that the shoes fit well and do not rub. There should be room for a dime in front of the toes, as the toes slide forward a little when they roll off. Tip: It is best not to buy the shoes in the morning, as they are less swollen, i.e. smaller and narrower, at this point.

The shoes should not be too big either: If the shoe slips while walking and rubs on the heel, blisters can form there.

Break in new shoes slowly

You can recognize a good purchase by the fact that you would like to wear the new item every day. When it comes to new summer shoes, however, it is better to take it slow: Feet need a certain amount of time to get used to new shoes. Here the old trick of breaking in shoes at home and then increasing the wearing time continuously has proven its worth.

It can also help to change shoes more often so that certain pressure points can take a break in between.

Strengthen skin barrier with moisturizer

Moisture and sweat do contribute to blistering, but still: Excessively dry skin is more prone to irritation than healthy skin. Regular care with moisturizing cream strengthens the skin barrier and protects against cracks and small wounds. However, applying cream directly before putting on your shoes is counterproductive, so it is best to apply the cream before going to bed and leave it on overnight.

Sweat is particularly dangerous for blistering. Baby powder can help to minimize the warm, humid climate between skin and shoe. Before you slip into your shoes, rub your feet with it and put some powder in your sandals or ballerina flats. The baby powder absorbs the moisture.

If all the precautions didn’t help and you still got a blister, you should act quickly. At the first sign of redness or irritation, an anti-blister stick or blister plaster with a gel coating can prevent it from getting worse. That’s why, especially in summer, it’s essential to have blister plasters with you.

Before sticking, you should carefully clean and dry the irritated area to avoid inflammation. The blister plaster must remain on the wound until it has come off by itself. Even if it’s tempting: Don’t puncture or squeeze the blister!
