Franconia: Summer timetable for regional and S-Bahn traffic comes into force - what changes are coming

The summer timetable will come into force throughout Europe on June 12, 2022. The Bayerische Eisenbahngesellschaft (BEG), which plans, finances and controls regional and S-Bahn traffic in Bavaria on behalf of the Free State, makes timetable adjustments for the so-called small timetable changes due to construction work and improves the offer on some lines.

As reported by the Bavarian Railway Company, the 2022 summer timetable is valid until December 10, 2022. It is in the Deutsche Bahn travel information (, in the Bavaria timetable ( and in the Bavaria timetable app deposited.

The main changes to the timetable at a glance

Construction work in Lower Franconia: Partly changed departure times and isolated stops

Due to renovation work, the high-speed route between Fulda and Würzburg will be completely closed from June 12, 2022. The construction work on the Fulda – Burgsinn route will last until December 10, 2022. The Burgsinn – Würzburg section will be open to traffic again from October 17, 2022. Long-distance trains will be diverted during the construction work and some of them will have different departure times. As a result, the timetables for regional and S-Bahn services will be adjusted.

RE 1 Nuremberg – Munich

§ The regular departure times are shifted by a few minutes.

§ In addition, there will be timetable changes until October 16, 2022 due to necessary maintenance work on vehicles. In both directions, travelers have to change trains at around 10:00 a.m., 5:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. in Ingolstadt Hbf. In the direction of Munich, individual stops will be canceled until October 16, 2022, namely in Petershausen (approx. 5:30 p.m.) and in Allersberg (approx. 3:32 p.m., only on Fridays).

RB 12 Nuremberg – Fürth – Markt Erlbach

– From October 17, 2022, the trains in the direction of Markt Erlbach will run slightly earlier. In Fürth-Burgfarrnbach, individual stops (at around 2:05 p.m. and around 5:00 p.m.) are canceled.

RB 16 Nuremberg – Treuchtlingen – Munich

– Due to timetable adjustments on the route section between Ingolstadt and Munich, many trains arrive in Munich Hbf a few minutes later or depart there a few minutes earlier.

RB 53 Bamberg – Schluechtern

– During the rush hour, the additional hourly trains between Würzburg and Karlstadt or Gemünden are canceled (until October 16, 2022).

RE 54/55 Frankfurt (Main) – Würzburg/Bamberg

– On weekends and public holidays, the additional trains running hourly and via the Werntalbahn from Frankfurt (Main) to Bamberg between Aschaffenburg and Bamberg are canceled (until October 16, 2022).

S6 Nuremberg – Neustadt (Aisch)

– Most trains in the direction of Nuremberg depart a few minutes earlier. From October 17, 2022, this also applies in the direction of Neustadt (Aisch).

Allgäu: Additional trains

On the RB 94 Kempten – Hergatz route, four new connections in the mornings and late afternoons supplement the hourly service on the RE 7 and RE 70 routes:

– Saturdays (except public holidays):

  • Kempten Hbf (from 06:51 a.m.) – Hergatz (arriving at 07:49 a.m.)
  • Hergatz (from 8:12 a.m.) – Kempten Hbf (arriving at 9:09 a.m.)

– On weekends and public holidays:

  • Kempten Hbf (from 4:56 p.m.) – Hergatz (arrives at 5:50 p.m.)
  • Hergatz (from 6:11 p.m.) – Kempten Hbf (arriving at 7:10 p.m.)

In addition, the first trains on the RE 70 (Lindau Island from 06:08 a.m.) and RE 76 (Oberstdorf from 06:17 a.m.) lines to Munich via Kempten also run on Sundays and public holidays, i.e. daily.

Franconian Lake District: improvements in school transport

On the RB 62 Pleinfeld – Gunzenhausen line, the BEG is improving the connection to the schools in Gunzenhausen: in the morning, the train arrives in Gunzenhausen at 7:41 a.m. (instead of the previous 7:49 a.m.). In Pleinfeld (from 07:25 a.m.) the connection from Treuchtlingen – Weißenburg remains in place. The connection from Nuremberg – Roth is possible with a train on line RE 16; it arrives in Pleinfeld at 7:17 a.m., around ten minutes earlier than the previous RE 60 feeder train.

Upper Palatinate: There are no stops in Etzenricht in favor of better connections in Weiden

The previous isolated stops in Etzenricht (1:35 p.m. and 8:09 p.m.) on the RE 41 Nuremberg Hbf – Neustadt (Waldnaab) line will no longer be available. This improves the connections of the RB 23 line from Marktredwitz and Schwandorf to the regional express to Nuremberg Hbf in the evenings in Weiden (RE 41 from Weiden at 8:06 p.m., but only from June 29th, 2022 due to construction work).
